How tokens and weekly limits work
ResearchDoom has separate budgets, and a task needs room in each to run.
1. Tokens
Section titled “1. Tokens”Tokens are the credits each AI request uses. Think of them as your credit balance: it refills each billing period, and every request spends some in proportion to how much text is read and written. A long chapter costs more than a short paragraph.
2. Weekly tool uses
Section titled “2. Weekly tool uses”A separate counter for each tool, showing this week’s uses per tool. For example, a plan gives you a set number of chapters a week. This is usually the limit you reach first.
Monthly plans get four times the weekly allowance of most tools. The two exceptions are Document Review and document uploads, which have their own monthly figures. The app shows the exact numbers.
Counters reset when your subscription renews, not on a fixed calendar week.
3. Citation searches
Section titled “3. Citation searches”A third, separate counter. The Citation Finder spends one search per lookup, not tokens.
Reading your balance on Home
Section titled “Reading your balance on Home”The balance card shows tokens remaining, chapters left, and citation searches. Expand Weekly Tool Usage to see every tool’s counter. Tools closest to empty sort to the top, and anything with one use or fewer stays visible even when the section is collapsed.
If a generation fails, the use is refunded. You are not charged for something you did not receive.
Which tools each level gets
Section titled “Which tools each level gets”For the tools both levels have, diploma deliberately shares undergraduate’s per-tool allowances: diploma is priced lower, not limited harder. Trial accounts are not subject to the weekly caps at all.
| Tool | Diploma | Undergraduate | Master’s | PhD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Study Tools | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Outline Generator | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Citation Finder | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Chapter Writer | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Document Review | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Address supervisor comments | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Internship / Industrial Training Report | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Viva Voce Prep | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Manuscript Review | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Manuscript Writer | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Abstract Writer | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Grant Proposal Writer (paid plans only) | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Presentation Builder (paid plans only) | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Higher levels get higher allowances for most of the tools they share (Document Review is the same at every level). The Plans screen and the Weekly Tool Usage list in the app show your exact numbers.
Note: Document Review and “Address supervisor comments” draw on the same counter. Budget for both together.
Busy-hours throttling
Section titled “Busy-hours throttling”The heaviest tools have a per-user limit during the busiest weekday hours, roughly 04:00 to 07:00 and 09:00 to 13:30 East Africa Time, Monday to Friday. The heaviest tools are affected, including Document Review, chapter polish, manuscript polish, supervisor reviews, the Abstract Writer, the Presentation Builder and the Grant Proposal Writer.
If you hit the limit you get a “try again later” message until the window ends. Weekends are not throttled. The practical advice: run long reviews and polishing outside those hours.
